How difficult is it to change a timing belt on a y reg Corsa?

Hubby has been quoted 拢350/拢400 to change one. We only paid 拢600 for the car so it dosnt seem worth the cost so being as he is quite handy with mechanics he thought he would have a go. Any advice or tips would be welcome or any web site that has manuals for servicing corsas. xHow difficult is it to change a timing belt on a y reg Corsa?
No problem, get yourself a Haynes manual %26amp; do it yourself. You're unlucky, the 1.0 12v %26amp; 1.2 16v Corsas of that age are chain driven so don't have a belt.

Just seen your additional info: Your garage are taking the piss, your car has a timing chain, NOT a belt. Guaranteed.

Yes, it's a chain %26amp; therefore should last either well over 100,000 miles, or the life of the engine unless there's a fault. How difficult is it to change a timing belt on a y reg Corsa?
Restricted space due to it being a front drive car.

You really should get a special tool to lock the camshafts in place as the belt is removed otherwise you will need to be able to realign everything before the belt goes on - difficult.

As well as the belt it may be recommended to change followers and the tensioner - a lot do this when belt is changed.

As your car is possibly chain not belt you might not need to do it.

Is it really the fan belt, or auxilliary drive belt that needs to be done - this is much simpler and cheaper???

You need to have a look at a haynes type manual for the car before attempting it to see what has to be done and what tools you need. How difficult is it to change a timing belt on a y reg Corsa?
Not a real hard job but a pretty precise job. I might recommend going to your local auto parts store and getting yourself a repair manual specifically for that car. Not only will it help with this repair but it will help with any diagnostics, testing, and future repairs. Haynes or Mitchell are both good manuals and will cost you about $25.00. Money well spent especially if you plan on doing most of your own repairs and diagnostics. GOOD LUCK!!!How difficult is it to change a timing belt on a y reg Corsa?
Not something a novice should undertake, have you tried calling other garages and getting a quote? It seems a bit extortionate, what part of the country are you in? or town..See if anything is better in your area..How difficult is it to change a timing belt on a y reg Corsa?
not a bad job really if your careful.there is no kit as such but the dealer will put together all the parts needed...new chain, guides, tensioner and gaskets.make sure you have the correct locking kit cos its a bit tricky without oneHow difficult is it to change a timing belt on a y reg Corsa?
I can only guess that 'hubby' has picked up information from somewhere that his belt needs changing every so many miles?

That applies only if it is actually a belt? Not if it's a chain

And even if it was a belt, it's no job to %26quot;have a go at%26quot;!

So all he needs is reassurance that it is a chain. How difficult is it to change a timing belt on a y reg Corsa?
If it,s the 1.2 16 valve engine it,s chain cam and only needs changing when and if you can hear it rattling badlyHow difficult is it to change a timing belt on a y reg Corsa?
1.0 12v and 1.2 16v are %26quot;chain cam%26quot; engines, tensioning is done by an automatic tensioner and it shouldn't need looking at for many thousands. In theory.

You need to keep on top of the oil changes though as the jets that lube the chain can get gungedgangedd lead to chain rattle. So can wear on the tensioner. When it starts rattling, then is the time to check for wear.
