Could be the apex seals. It could be overheating as the rotary motor is hard to keep cool. It could be your ignotors. Don't know what else to tell you really other than to take it to someone and get them to diagnose it for you and then you can fix it yourself. Can anyone help me with instructions on how to change out the belt or any suggestions. I've replaced timing belts on my old car, a Subaru.1999 Honda Odyssey Timing Belt Replacement?
yes, buy the service manual and READ. Every car is unique and the DOHC V-6 of your Ody is much different than your flat 4 in your 'Ru.

I do not recall the timing belt being as SHORT as 60k - a garage might have told you that. BUT, it would not be more than 105k! At 117k, you are on a thread DEPENDING on where you live. Timing belts in the mild weather, humid east coast seem to last very well - my AC belt and Alternator belt on my 95 Ody lasted 100k miles! The dry southwest WILL dry out the belts much sooner.

All this to say, get your belt done soon and you should probably do the cam seals, crank seal and waterpump while you are in there.1999 Honda Odyssey Timing Belt Replacement?
This is a job best left to a professional. Don't bring it to the Honda dealer... they will get you for about $800 for parts and labor, including a new water pump. We have a 2000 Odyssey and when the water pump went at 130,000 miles I changed the timing belt. I had a local mechanic do it. He used a rebuilt water pump and 3 hours of labor.... got the whole job done for under $400 with some new gaskets, etc, also. I stopped in and took a look while he was doing the work. The clearances are very tight. This is a large engine in a small compartment. Unless you have a lift, I would not attempt this.

By the way, there is probably no rush to replace this belt. The condition of the belt that I took out of my Odyssey was very good. I felt foolish for doing it but I needed the pump anyway and it just made sense to do it. Most people never get this done despite the risks and most cars do not end up in the junkyard or with massive engine damage since the belt, when it does go, tends to snap on startup before the engine is under load or high rev.1999 Honda Odyssey Timing Belt Replacement?
YOU MIGHT NEED TO TAKE IT TO A SHOP THE TIMING BELT COULD SET YOU BACK IF YOU DO IT WRONG BUT IF YOU ARE SKILLED IN THE ART OF TIMEING BELT REPLACEMENT GO FOR IT

IF YOU CAN FIND A SERVICE MANUEL ONLINERhebahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00819564512812325438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876623763119064291.post-39152072031101992232011-09-22T06:51:00.000-07:002011-09-22T06:51:04.389-07:002004 sti timing belt?i have a 2004 sti with 47k miles on it and im wondering when im suppose to change the timing belt!? second, if i take it to a dealer, how much would they charge?2004 sti timing belt?
I know the service interval for the belt on my 2000 outback is 104,000 miles. The tensioner and water pump are easy to get at when the timing covers are off, but very well may still be ok. I would look in the owners manual and go with that. Or call your local dealer.2004 sti timing belt?
I believe that would be every 62,500 miles your timing belt should be changed by subaru standards. You should get the tensioner and water pump done at the same time too, most dealers would probably charge around $500 for just belt, maybe $700-800 all together for water pump and tensioner.Rhebahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00819564512812325438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876623763119064291.post-36654643263877922692011-09-22T06:50:00.004-07:002011-09-22T06:50:53.474-07:00Adjust timing belt on a Car?I think the timing belt has possibly skipped, i do not know. Its a 1979 Z28 Camaro. I was going to try and replace the belt/chain. Its under the thin cover below the water pump, i do believe. How easy is it to change a timing chain/belt if it has skipped? How do you know where it is supposed to be lined up at? Thanks in advance.Adjust timing belt on a Car?
Pretty easy. It's a chain with no adjustment. You can get a timing chain set for a reasonable price at the parts store.Adjust timing belt on a Car?
that car has a chain........and if anything it has stretched........and that is one of the easiest style to change....still requires some work tho....

remove...fan....radiator and hoses if necessary(hoses are radiator usually is) remove water pump......remove timing cover .....remove chain and gears.......replace chain and gears with new chain and gears....make sure its a double roller....most are....

if u want specifics look up any car show on google and they will have an episode of them changing or installing chain on that motor......

or search u-tube sure their are some vids...Adjust timing belt on a Car?
There are usually some marks on the crankshaft and camshaft gear that should line up with marks on the chain. The two dots on the crank and cam should perfectly line up with one another. No harm in removing the cover and having a look.Adjust timing belt on a Car?
Get your self a mechanic that has done this before and save yourself some headaches.

This requires dismantling the engine, including draining the water/anti freeze and taking off water pump, hoses, air conditioning, fan, probably take off or loosen power steering, and taking off the grill and radiator, and so on. And you might need a damper puller to remove the damper.

And then you will need to change your oil, completely, since anti freeze will leak into it when you take the belt cover off.

If you put the chain on wrong, your car may never start. Or you could damage the pistons or valves.

Leave it up to the pros.

If you think you can do it, get yourself a manual that shows you how step by step, to do it. And borrow the tools, or rent them, so that it can be done right.Adjust timing belt on a Car?
I would strongly say that either get a repair manual for it and do alot of reading up on it if your not in a hurry so you understand how to do it or find someone that can do it or take it to a shop if you can afford a shop to do it.It sounds like your not machanical inclined.
remove brontok

what is a usb device
Rhebahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00819564512812325438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876623763119064291.post-6001710973317403892011-09-22T06:50:00.003-07:002011-09-22T06:50:37.609-07:00Does performance improve after timing belt/water pump change?Hey all--

I just paid $900 at the Volkswagen dealership to get my timing belt, water pump, rollers, and air pump replaced. Is that a good deal? Also, how does the timing belt replacement relate to performance? I noticed my car was a little faster than before (maybe it's because I was driving another car for 2 days).Does performance improve after timing belt/water pump change?
You made a wise decision to have your car timing belt/water pump changed at the dealership as they are major components. I believe the $900 was well spent and will serve you well for many more years of safe driving. Unless the old belt was loose or slipping, thus possibly causing the valves to open at wrong timings, I don't think you will notice any difference in the car performance after the replacement, especially if it was a preventive maintenance at the recommended mileage. But I do believe you will feel some difference in terms of the engine smoother acceleration and responsiveness. The $900 spent can really do wonders sometimes, at least in your mind.Does performance improve after timing belt/water pump change?
It is a VW, so 900 sounds about right. I would've done it myself though, but that's just me. The belt/pump replacement will not change your performance.Does performance improve after timing belt/water pump change?
Here's my answer, not sure it is right, but right for me. After a certain time, I replace my timing belt. I may not always replace my water pump with my timing belt. Why, the water pump may go for another 100, 000 miles like it did in my last car. I don't see anything you did or replaced that relates to performance. I change things because the maintenance schedule calls for them to be changed. When I pull them off, sometimes they are good and sometimes not so good.Does performance improve after timing belt/water pump change?
It makes your car not die. It prevents damage to the engine if you either overheat it because your water pump's died, or damage to the valves and lifters if the timing belt breaks. This is exactly the peventive maintenance the car needs to continue providing reliable transportation for you. I've heard some horror stories from people who have neglected to do this maintenance. They often need a whole new engine, or if they're lucky, just a new head for their engine. $4000 later they're fine.

So yeah, $900 was a bargain.Rhebahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00819564512812325438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876623763119064291.post-15246111471160891942011-09-22T06:50:00.002-07:002011-09-22T06:50:25.395-07:00When should the timing belt be changed on my rx8?when should the timing belt be changed on my rx8?

i currently own a 2004 rx-8 with 47k on the clock it is the 231ps model.

i wouild like to know what mileage and how often and if possible how long would it take. When should the timing belt be changed on my rx8?
Your owners manual might have the info. How much time?I have a 2003 GTS Spyder.... the 60K service says to have the timing belt changed. I know this is important and have it scheduled for next week (at 70K mi now) Could it wait a few more weeks - a month or does it need to be done NOW?Timing Belt.... How much time?
It can wait. I did my mom's 01' it had 85K on it and I inspected the belt very well and it had no stress marks at all. I think you should not worry to much. Japanese motors usually blow their timing belts around ++130k. Get ready to spend about $800. Get the water pump done too hopefully you know that it's behind the timing belt and it's better to get it done now. Also replace the thermostat they go bad around 60K get the one from the factory it cost about $25 it's better then the crap at auto zone. It's good that your doing your maintenance most people ignore it completely. If you have any questions fell free I've worked on that car for 7 years now.Rhebahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00819564512812325438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876623763119064291.post-45983315904421615082011-09-22T06:50:00.000-07:002011-09-22T06:50:03.576-07:002000 gls volkswagen jetta do i have to get the timing belt changed and how much will it cost?THE VR6 HAS THE TIIMING CHAING so if your GLS is a VR6 your goood thats what i got I was asking the same question a few days ago IF you have the 4 cylinder i herd its about $1,200 because they chage the timmingbelt anf the waterpump anf it should be done at about 95k btw i love my new jettaRhebahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00819564512812325438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876623763119064291.post-38116682673355301292011-09-22T06:49:00.004-07:002011-09-22T06:49:51.690-07:00Do u have to change the water pump, belt , etc around 100 000 miles in a 2001 civic and how much does it cost?i have a 2001 civic and a guy at express lube told me ill need to change the timing belt and some pump and a couple other things and they would do it for around 500 dollars i dont know much does this sound right? The biggest issue about timing belts failing (breaking) is due to tension - either too tight or too loose. Too tight is usually bc an inexperienced person or misguided mechanic didn't know what they were doing. Too loose is usually because it wasn't adjusted and maintained, ie neglected.

It's always good to get it replaced when you're in doing something else, if you don't know the history. If you know its not that old, just make sure someone qualified checks and adjusts the tension on a regular basis (like once/year)Rhebahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00819564512812325438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2876623763119064291.post-16681747488357743832011-09-22T06:47:00.000-07:002011-09-22T06:47:07.651-07:00Changing the timing belt on a 95 eagle talon?does anyone know how to change the timing belt on a 95 eagle talon, non turboChanging the timing belt on a 95 eagle talon?
---I have some advise that you may not want to hear but you should. You did not make clear if the belt(s) was/were still in tack or not. What you should know is that the engine in these vehicles are probably interference design. This means that to gain the performance and compression ratio the combustion chambers are small and there are very close tolerances.

The problem is that if a belt, and in most cases one or both of two belts break, the valves almost always make contact with the top of the piston. This also almost always bends several valves on the cylinders affected by a broke timing belt. In a worse case scenario a valve can punch through a piston. The cost of just replacing bent valves are expense. If a piston is punctured the cost is usually more expensive than the vehicle is worth.

%26quot;If%26quot; the belt(s) is/are not broken and a person makes a very minute error during replacement then the consequences can be for more severe than the cost of letting a shop perform the repairs.

I would implore you to examine this, find out if you do in fact have an interference designed engine, and consider your options.

If the belt(s) is/are broken I wish you luck. If the belt(s) is/are not broken and you intend to perform the repairs I also wish you luck.Changing the timing belt on a 95 eagle talon?
I do [buy a service manual]it should explain every thing.good luck.Changing the timing belt on a 95 eagle talon?
Some people just don't know that the purpose of a question is to have an answer for it.
